heart

We felt there was a voice that remained unheard.  That voice is the voice of love.  We heard it in the emails to us as people talked of their pets now deceased or injured.

We thank you for sharing your hearts with us and for your kind words about our efforts.

Thank You -  Brenda

We are currently feeding and have been feeding for quite sometime now: (due
to allergic reactions from commercial grade dog food)

California Natural: Lamb and Rice Formula; "lil bites".

Found at better and smaller privately owned pet shops. They have a fantastic website with a retailer locater for all 50 states:
www.naturapet.com
This company was never involved in the recall as they don't use any of the garbage in their dry kibble. I urge everyone to visit the website, and call the 800 # with any questions, their staff is wonderful and knowledgeable.
Sincerely,
Tanks Mom

After losing my 14 year old cat to renal failure (was feeding Purina One cat food) I have changed to Felidae for my surviving 6 year old cat.  Phantom is thriving on this food.  She eats less, eliminates less, and she is not bingeing and purging anymore.

At the present I am feeding my 16 year old male cat Medi-Cal Weight Control
wet. (He had been happily on dry for 12 years before that, but a change in
his eating habits concerned me, and the vet suggested this. In April, he
had begun to eat just a bit, then leave, and come back for a bit
more...There had been no recall on the dry Medi-Cal weight control, but
when I read that there WAS corn gluten in it, and the S. African problem
there, I was worried.) He eats the wet willingly. No glutens in this wet
formula, but there is rice flour. I continue to be obsessed with the
recall, and am just waiting til this food, too, is affected; I'm sure it's
just a matter of time. Linda – Canada

I have been feeding my two cats the Purina natural choice weight control since getting them 5 and 6 years ago.  I have had no problem, but I worry everyday that a new bag I open may have something wrong with it.

I also feed them canned food.  I was giving them max cat-seafood and tomato bisque, but it was recalled.  I took it back to the pet store as soon as they started recalling the pouches as I just had a feeling that it would be next.  I took back 2 cases and did not write down the code on the case.  My vet had wished I had, but they never showed any problems so he is not worried about it now, but wants me to keep my eye open anyway.  They are now on Purina pro plan and I have had no problems, but then again, I am so uncertain of what to really feed them and yes, the dry food has corn gluten and the canned has wheat gluten.  I have called Purina and have been reassure over and over again that the food is safe.

If you have any information to give me, I would certainly appreciate it.  My little white Devon doesn't do well with a change of food.  He has a sensitive stomach.  My two Devons mean the world to me and don't want to lose them.

I read all the blogs daily and it breaks my heart and I hate to think of what all those pet parents are going through trying to keep their pets alive.

I am thinking of going to Felidae.  I have read only good things about it, but don't really know if my cats would even consider it and I have no idea of the cost and if their little bodies would tolerate it.  I also want you to know that I am being inundated with coupons for free bags of different cat foods and $5 off on cat food bags.  Does this sound to you like the pet food companies are hurting?  It sounds like it to me.  Just wish I could trust them again.

thanks and if you have any news of any good and reliable and trustworthy cat foods, please let me know. We use the wet and the dry.

thanks for any information you can give me ---------Joanne

I took a picture of my ribbons I made. I ordered the ribbons special from a place in Ohio. I wanted the pink paw prints for Sugar. I have never been an activist before but her death has affected me deeply. I have gotten her sister from my daughter and here also is a picture of her. Her name is Daisy. There were 4 of these solid white kittens. She is from the same litter. I am very protective of what she eats, believe me. I was typing this and the news was on and there is another pet food scare with a medicine in it. It just never ends...

Thanx

GOOD WORK! i posted your website, on the ''petfood'' recall, on
AOL almost one month ago. Over the weekend, we had to go
to Connecticut, to attend my nephew's graduation in New Haven.
I made sure I brought my shirt. One day, I went to Walmart, to
have more pictures made of my dead dogs. I was going to stop
by Senator Rosa de Lauro's office, but with everything being so
hectic, I never got there. Anyway, I had a Walmart worker make 10 copies of 2 of my dogs-the ones who died 6 days apart. The woman asked me about the pics, for some reason, and I told her how I was sending one, to Anderson Cooper. Her face lit up-yeah, she was probably thinking they were celebrities or something, lol. Anyway, another worker was walking by, as my pics were being made, and she went--''ooh, whose dogs are they'' ?? (I had a beautiful shit tzu, and a lhasa) so I go to her; they WERE my dogs-they were poisoned by the pet food I BOUGHT AT WALMARTS! All of a sudden, people were gathering around me. I had my shirt on and pulled it out---saying; see this shirt? Read it! it's time for you people to start realizing what this store is doing to our animals, and all of the rest of them---then, this kid from the back came up and wondered if his cat had died all of a sudden, from the food! I said yes, if he bought it there, lol. This
cannot go away. Too many people are forgetting. I wrote a long letter to Rosa de Lauro, explaining this story above, and how I never made it to her office, BUT I WILL!
I never heard if Cooper mentioned all the cards your site told
us to send. It was a great idea, to list their dog and name saying MY PET COUNTS! KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK! Diana - NY

Thank you for giving us a voice and an opportunity to vent. It was heartbreaking looking at all the faces of cherished pets who left us too soon. One of the hardest things to come to terms with is the possibility that we fed our pet the poison, however well intentioned. My husband and I spent three weeks watching our dog waste away while The Vet at the animal clinic did not know why or what had caused it. It was a full month later that the news of the contaminated dog food made headlines.
I'm so sorry for all of your loses. This is our little Roscoe in happier times.

My name is Kathy and my family and I lost (2)
cherished pets shortly after Christmas and before the recall
situation came to pass. I have been working on my own to
raise awareness in their honor and for the future protection
of our fur babies and really the safety of all of us when it
comes to our food supplies, especially those being imported.
I have (2) devastated children and we never forget the hole
losing our Jasmine and Precious has left in our lives. I'm
willing to exchange info, help in the fight or do whatever
to assist your most admirable endeavor.

Hi,
Just checking in. I want to share with you what I have been doing. I ordered ribbon, brown with pink paw prints, safety pins and have made hundreds of ribbons, I made a flyer with my Sugar's picture on it and your website address on it and our State Senators addresses on the flyer asking them to write the Senators and ask for a total pet food recall and demand Menu Foods take responsibility for what has happened .

My daughter is a dog groomer and she has these flyers in the shop she works for and they are being dropped off at all the veternarian offices in our area. There is also going to be a Rescue fair set up this weekend to get pets adopted, there will be flyers there also.

I also made address labels with the silouette of a dog and cat as the picture ,with your web address on it. So every piece of mail I send out also has information in a sence for people. They will look at the web address and hopefully go check out this website.

I am an older woman and disabled but want to do what I can so no one has to go through what I and all these people and pets have gone through needlessly. I read these stories and it lets me know I am not the only one suffering over this.Thank you all for this forum....

Thanks first, for all you are doing to keep people focused on this horrible story.  It needs to be told and the causes need to be investigated.

I lost my 4 year old cat, Buster, on 3/27/07.  He became sick immediately after eating Nutro Max Cat wet food just days prior to the announcement of the recall.  It wasn't a normal brand I would buy.  I bought it only as a treat, a flavor change for a day or two.  My good intentions ended up leading to his death thanks to Menu Foods and this freakin' company in China.  Finally, on 3/27, my vet and I agreed that the most human thing to do was to put him down.  He was so, so sick.  Dropping weight rapidly.  Unable to eat.  Vomiting horrible brown sewer smelling vomit.  Lethargic.  His coat was a mess.  Just so, so sad.

Anyway, I wanted to send a picture of Buster hoping you'd put it on your In Memory page.  It would mean a lot to me.  He was my Buster boy and we really were robbed of many good years.

I now have another cat, my oldest, Witchy, ill with renal failure too.  I am not sure, at this point, that hers is caused by the pet food recall.  Regardless, I can't bear to think about going through this again, but I guess I don't get to have a choice in the matter.  Needless to say, it's not been a good few months in this house.

Let me know if there is anything I can do in the Columbus OH area.  I am not able to be in charge of organizing a huge event right now, however, I would be willing to help in small ways.  My focus now is on Witchy, but remembering Buster is also important to me so I'd like to help.
Thanks,
Deborah

This is Sugar ,She was born August 31,2006,She died March 9,2007 needlessly due to the pure negligence and greed of Menu Foods. As always when you get to the root of this there is money.
My story is that we are an elderly couple whose children are grown. We live in a very small rural area and we were home a lot, alone and Sugar came into our lives. She was so playful and adorable . We loved her so much. She filled our lives with such joy. She slept with us every night . For such a little thing we would laugh and say she sure could take up a lot of bed space.
That space is empty now. I have a lot of medical problems and there were days that I just could not get up, Surgar would stay right by my side and somehow that made me feel better.
When we had to take her to the vet the last time to put her to sleep, I felt like my heart was being ripped out of me. It was the hardest thing I have ever done. I held her in that office looking into those little eyes that trusted me and did the humane thing and ended her suffering.
For several nights , I sat upright all night long holding her , just like I had my  kids so many years ago when they were sick and tried to sooth her pain. I could feel her little body tremble and i would pray that she would get better. The doctor had told me that there was nothing that could be done for her but I could not let go of her.
At that time I did not know about the pet food recall. We did not understand how this happened to her. Then I saw the news several weeks later, it was like I had been kicked in the stomach. I had quite a bit of the food still here, I had not thrown anything of hers away. I went in the cabinet and got the food out, went to the website and checked the lot numbers. I fed her both Iams and Special Kitty, The lot numbers matched on both brands. It hurt even more to know that what I though was tasty for her and nutricious was what killed her, she could still be here with us.
She is buried down by my pond and I look out my kitchen window at her grave every day. I hope that all this helps change things and that all these dogs and cats did not die in vain. Thank you for this forum to speak out.

Do you know of any listing of foods that we KNOW are safe at this point?  Or should we be suspicious of all the mass produced foods out there?

I have found pnv2 site to be calm and dignified, which is apealing to me, and I have referred the site to some other pet owners, etc. Additionally, I found the photographs of remembrance ribbons to be interesting and gave me a few ideas which I am implementing. I am planning to wear a chocolate ribbon with Roy Boy's tag, and make other ribbons with the chocolate ribbon and "pawed" ribbon together to give out before 4-28 march/remembrance day to neighbors/family if not for their pets, then for Roy Boy. All it takes is one wronged, unknowing, dedicated best friend owner to make a difference; at least that is how I see it.

Here a few photos of my little girl.  She was always so healthy & active....
I had to have her put down on March 12, 2007 b/c of the recalled food - she would only eat the Wegmans Sliced Chicken in the pouch.  Wegmans is a store brand & it was on the first recall list by Menu Foods.  Please note that this was the only food Tabby would eat - she was extremely stubborn & fussy......Wegmans is a local grocery store chain in my area.  Tabby was diagnosed c. 2 weeks prior to the recall.  I didn't know @ the time that she died that the food is what caused her to be ill.  First recall was on Friday (3/16) & not really televised until Saturday (3/17),  Tabby died on Monday - 3/12. The vet stated that Tabby had CRF.

We pay tribute to Roy's devoted loyalty, love and friendship that he has always given us.  Some day, as we meet on the other side, we will meet our beloved Roy again with hugs, tears, and kisses.

MICHOU, " THE LEGEND " ( 2001 - 2007 )

After a two month's ordeal, three good recoveries, and four times repeatedly battling against the deadly toxic from tainted commercial pet food ; Our 8 years old playful Maltese, our child,
finally lost his battle, Wednesday April 18th , 2007, after sunset ( 7:40pm ).

This shameful result was due to the fact that Menu Food Income Funds’ nationwide recall was not announced much sooner and their continually growing recall lists were not comprehensive since the beginning.

Our little “ Michou “ was not only a faithful companion, he promoted the benefits of pet ownership, everywhere he went. Michou could bring out the gentle side of the most rigid individual and he could always cause a stressed out person to laugh hysterically when dressed in one of his “drag queen outfits”.

When going places with his parents, Michou gladly stopped and posed for locals and tourists taking pictures. They were defenseless against Michou's charisma. Children would impatiently tug on their parents arm, exclaiming, “Look it's a Hollywood Dog“ as Michou strolled through the crowd in his infamous blue shades and his focused look. Every time Michou created a commotion, we always said to ourselves, “If we could charge $ 1 dollar for every smile he promoted and every picture taken of him, we would be extremely wealthy and could retire tomorrow!”.

Michou appeared many times in the local newspapers and the local television news. He did not use his fame without purpose. He raised awareness and promoted advocacy for himself and other pets. In March 2006, Michou marched into the Austin City Council meeting to campaign for restaurants that desired to be pet friendly and allow dogs and their parents to share time together on open decks.

That afternoon, April the 18th, Michou made his last efforts to dragg himself through the house to wait for his Mommy at the bottom of the stairs. His Mommy was upstairs on the phone with his Daddy. They discussed, for the first time, on how frail he had become and the loss of any hope for him to fully recover again. . They discussed how far they could go to afford his veterinarian care, to continue sleeping in the kitchen, and to keep waking up every three hours to care for him ?!

As always Michou loved to please his parents, and so he decided for his Mommy and Daddy that enough had been done to try and save him. Michou’s large brown eyes starred up at the sky, he gasped twice, his body became lifeless, and there he was, silently GONE FOREVER from his Mommy’s arms! Michou could wait no longer for his Daddy to come home that day.

Spring is in full bloom in Texas, but Michou could no longer get dressed and get excited about attending many of his favorite outdoors events. There will be no more afternoons at Mozart’s by the lake, no more jet set lifestyle, nor long walks with his parents to whom he was so attached.
-Alice & Philip
